The Honorable Helen Chong
The Honorable Helen Chong is a former Magistrate of the Supreme Court of Virginia. As a Magistrate, she conducted judicial hearings with petitioners seeking emergency custody orders or temporary detention orders and received training in mental health matters through the Virginia judicial system. As a member of the Virginia Bar Association’s Veterans Task Force Initiative, she collaborates with key stakeholders in Virginia to address the legal needs of veterans in Virginia.
Ms. Chong is the recipient of several national and state honors, which includes being chosen from a pool of 10,000 attorneys and honored as the Young Lawyer of the Year at the Virginia State Bar Annual Conference. Ms. Chong is one of nine female attorneys and judges featured in Virginia Living Magazine’s special editorial series celebrating the achievements of Virginia’s women legal professionals in “Beyond the Letter of the Law.” The American Bar Association has recognized several successful programs she helped develop.
Ms. Chong is one of the authors of the Veterans Benefits Manual, the nation’s leading treatise on veterans law. As an Appellate Attorney and Training Associate at the National Veterans Legal Service Program, she helps manage high-quality educational programs, including presentations for attorneys and veteran service officers on how to help disabled or injured veterans secure benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Ms. Chong is a graduate of the University of Virginia (B.A.) and The George Mason University School of Law (J.D.). She is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
