Webinar Description:
VA BENEFITS FOR MENTAL DISORDERS
Many veterans bear not just physical scars as a result of their service to our country, but mental scars as well. Sadly, not all of these veterans are receiving the VA benefits to which they are entitled for their psychiatric disabilities. In this webinar, we will explain how to establish service connection for mental disorders, including the special rules for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and how to ensure that the VA properly evaluates these disabilities. We will address a variety of issues that commonly arise in mental disorder claims. We will provide advice about how to present persuasive arguments to the VA to maximize a veteran’s benefits and when to seek review of a VA decision involving a mental disorder.
This 90-minute webinar will cover the following and more:
- The unique rules related to establishing service connection for PTSD based on the type of stressor experienced by the veteran
- Claims for mental disorders caused by military sexual trauma
- Disabilities that can be service-connected as secondary to PTSD
- How drug and alcohol use impact mental disorder claims
- Tips for attaining a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) when a veteran has a service-connected mental disorder
